This year, my birthday brought another year in my age (boo!) but also lots of freebies. So I decided to write this blog more as a tribute to all the freebies you should be signed up for your birthday. After all, the years may not be kind but some of these retailers and restaurants sure are nice to us as we tack another year on!
We had a groupon this year for FTD- remember when this deal came out the week of Valentine’s Day? Well, for my 29th birthday this year (I will always be 29- I am not really 29) it was used for me to get Valentine flowers at my office- that never happens! I never get flowers at work so this was a great opportunity for hubby to send me my favorites- Tulips! They came in a gorgeous box from FTD, with a personalized card and a standard vase. Groupons are a great way to get savings on things you’d be spending money on anyway- like flowers, massages and haircuts, pizza, restaurants, redbox, and the list never ends… I just got a shutterfly photo book for $10 as well.
But, forget that, let’s get to the free stuff for your birthday- after all, you’re not getting any younger… okay, okay, enough with the jokes too. If you sign up for birthday clubs or rewards clubs, and restaurant clubs, this is a great way to get freebies on your special day but the specials usually have a 2-week window of use so you can eat free for about 2 weeks if you do it right. Red Robin now has a Royalty Card program and you have to go in to pick up a Royalty Card but you get a free burger on your birthday – if you know the prices at Red Robin, you know this is worth up to $12! You can register all your kiddos under the same card and your spouse and you all get special treats on your birthdays. It’s a family tradition for us- we go to Red Robin for birthdays because it is good, casual, and a family-friendly place. Thanks, Red Robin!
Another place you should sign up all your family members is Baskin-Robbins. You can do it on-line but on your birthday you get $3 off coupons for ice cream cakes and pies AND you get a free scoop of your favorite ice cream. These are emailed to you about a week before your birthday and expire approximately 5 days after your birthday. I love my free scoop of chocolate mint yearly – yum!
If you love Rubio’s Mexican Food, here’s another place that celebrates you on your day. You get a free meal- whether it’s a burrito or taco meal, up to $7.00. Rubio’s is a great place to eat and healthy! I signed up for their Rubio’s Club on-line and have been getting special coupons and flyers since. This year, I even got a special treat for my birthday. What a yummy treat- thanks, Rubio’s!
Maggiano’s, I just learned, has a special club as well. When you sign up for emails, you get $10 off your meal instantly, and then on your birthday, you get $10 off as well and I get flyers from them occassionally giving away a carry out meal for free if you buy one and lemon cookies. What better way to celebrate than to get a free meal at Maggiano’s?
I also got free dessert at Buffalo Wild Wings. I got an email from them since I am on their list for a free dessert of my choice (no purchase necessary) on my birthday and this does not expire ’til the end of the month so we still have time to get some food, watch March Madness, and get a free dessert. Wow!
Another favorite of ours which is now shut down and replaced by Jack N Grille in Westminster, Colorado, is Pizzeria UNO. This place was great but it shut down but there are still other locations open. They sent me a BOGO for my birthday as well.
It’s my understanding that several places offer deals like this so ask around and make sure you get your deal. I know at Garlic Knot, in Lakewood, Colorado, I told the guy it was our birthday and we got 10% off our lunch specials and free cinna-knots with dipping sauce complete with candles. Wow… thanks, Garlic Knot.
As I was doing my research on freebies, I also found a great website for you to check out as well. This website has a comprehensive of even all the retail deals for your birthday. Check out More with Less Today
Many places do drink specials and free drinks on your birthday too. I think you just have to tell them. Do some research and you can seriously have a grand time as you face getting older. Fret not… get out, and eat, drink and shop your way into oblivion. After all, you should celebrate you and if you can do it for free for a few weeks, then why not?
