Happy Mardi Gras- follow up review King Cakes for Katrina & Rheinlander Bakery in Arvada

In honor of Mardi Gras, and since I am missing all the fun back home, I have to write again about the taste of New Orleans I got right here in my own backyard!

Before

Read my original review of the Rheinlander King Cakes for Katrina here.   I made a suggestion to Rheinlander Bakery in Arvada, Colorado, to make their king cakes less sugary and sweet, and they listened!   Check out the comments to the original article and see their reply.  Boy, did they listen!   My husband picked a cake up for my office to share on Lundi Gras (The Monday preceding Mardi Gras).  It was significantly different.

AFTER

The picture “before” of the king cake and the picture “after” tell it all.  The underlying cake recipe has not changed.  So, I had cinnamon both times and the underlying cake did not change, only the amount of colored sugar and icing changed.  The package of beads changed up too and the beads were much prettier, and the baby was actually insertable this time and one of my office colleagues did get the baby.  I guess he will have to head out to Rheinlander next year!  I have to say, it gives me a lot of comfort to know that I can get a taste of home every year right here in Arvada, Colorado!  Thanks, Rheinlander bakery, and keep the King Cakes coming!

  1. I don’t know about you, but I truly adore the king cakes! They seem to taste different, and they taste special and unusual in a good meaning. This is the reason why I can’t get enough of eating king cakes!
