Another candle on the cake

20150317_084417Well, to be exact, there was only one candle in the cupcake, but another birthday has come and gone.  24 backwards is not a milestone birthday, but I do enjoy birthdays. After getting married, and having children, there is really no excuse for the world to celebrate YOU!  Birthdays are about it.  Of course, I create excuses to make each day special – see all my posts on the 100-day course I took, but there’s no better excuse to eating cake and ice cream than your birthday.

I generally start my birthday the minute the first free item coupon rolls in – $15 at Ann Taylor, or $10 at Kohl’s, and free dinner at Rubio’s, free burger (yes, this vegetarian loves her veggie burger) at Red Robin, free scoop at Baskin-Robbins, free Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts coffee, Lamar’s donut (yum!), and the list just goes on and on.  While I celebrate bit by bit all month-long, this year was just not the same without my best friend.  I miss her terribly.  When it’s a work day and you have to be at work on your birthday there’s just something to be said about having a best friend to do lunch with, or get pampered with on your special day.  But, sob story aside, it was so nice to celebrate this year with friends and neighbors.  Earlier in the week, I also got to do a painting and wine event and painted a beauty!  Also, I am so blessed to live near and around so many cool people who are not just great to have as neighbors, but whom I get to call friends.  A bottle of wine outside on the porch after an 82-degree day set the scene for a perfect birthday and flowers from a good friend ended the perfect day.

An entire weekend of perfect weather with family preceded this, mind you.  And I finally got to try a place I have wanted to try for sometime.  The meal was so great, I promptly passed out afterwards.  Another candle on the cake, another fun day, week and month celebrating.  We ended it with a family cruise.  Here’s to birthdays!

Milestones and Memories- Princess Party Fun!

20150222_121255Look who turned 6?  It’s hard to believe our little one turned 6 last weekend, and we decided to pull out the stops and held the party at our home.  Sure, the Queen (mom) was nervous about a party at the house, and yes, we had some pretty crappy weather for it, but we pulled it off.  And the princess was very pleased and happy with her party.  Hailed as the “best party ever,” I can definitely say it went very well.

We called on Wands and Wishes in Denver, and were not disappointed with the lovely Princess Aurora as Sleeping Beauty.  She has an amazing voice, personality, and handled all the princesses we sent her way with grace and kindness.  She also led dances and read the girls a story.  The options are endless, but it was perfect for our little princess and her friends.  Milestones do not come around often, so it is nice to celebrate them with style and with all your friends and family.  Memories are cherished, and this event was no different.  Our little princesses had a grand time at our Palace.IMG_1071

Perfect Moment Monday – Where does the time go?

IMG_9383My friend, Lori, is retiring her linky to “Perfect Moment Monday (PMM).”  She is right, she should not feel obligated to find perfect moments.  They should happen, and we either notice, or we don’t.  Sometimes, we are so busy, we miss some too!  These moments can happen at anytime, not just Mondays, or weekends, but always.  We just have to notice them.  I started looking back on the perfect moment posts I have written.  I do not remember feeling obligated at all, but enjoyed every minute.  To see all my PMM posts, look under category, “Perfect Moment,” and all the posts will appear.  My favorite ones are, by far, these two PMM posts:

IMG_9410(1) Two Years and Growing – this one brought back such fond memories.   Even as I write my PMM for this past weekend, I realize that three years have passed already since this post, and my little girl will change and grow daily.  I love writing milestone posts about my sweet little ones because not only do I capture the memories, I feel that I share something meaningful with my readers too!

(2) Twinkling Little Stars–  This one is near and dear to my heart since I now fly away once a month, and I cannot return home Saturday nights to see them or hear them sing.  This particular post melts my heart because I was so lucky to capture these moments with my sweet little ones.  Now that I frequently fly out of town for one of my jobs, I am sad that I cannot return home to experience this but I still hold them close to my heart.

IMG_9419Ah, where does the time go?  Here I am writing about a perfect moment about this weekend.  My little one’s milestone birthday weekend.  She is now five years old!  Hard to believe that she starts Kindergarten this fall, and will start a new journey in her young life.  I wish I could freeze time for just a few years, and hold on longer to these moments, but alas, we have brought them into this world to let them go into it… to leave us, and do great things.  Easier said than done, huh?

This past weekend’s perfect moment was not just the time we spent together, which was fabulous.  It wasn’t the date night that hubby and I enjoyed seeing “The Mousetrap” at the Arvada Center.  It wasn’t the birthday party itself, or just the Friday night fun we had with friends and one another.  It was all of the above and the other little moments that we don’t always capture on camera or video.  For example, the kids cuddling up with popcorn on the sofa and saying the funniest, cutest things about what their favorite thing this weekend was. My 5-year-old exclaimed, “I liked when I saw all my friends- nothing else.”  Or, it was the moment when my 6-year old playing air guitar by herself, and laughing.  She thought no one saw.

IMG_9387How many perfect moments can you notice?  How many do you miss?  I suspect we miss a lot more than we catch, but for me, all the moments in total made this weekend perfect.  Monday will come too quick and off we will go our separate ways to work and school, but the memories of all these little moments, of all this shared time together really make life perfect!  For me, they define #perfectmoment Monday.  Lori, I will miss #perfectmoment Mondays, but thanks to you I will definitely keep noticing them.  Thanks for the opportunity, and thanks for the memories.

Milestones & Memories – Memorial Day Weekend 2013

IMG_3327If you look at posts of past, every Memorial Day is generally a milestone weekend for us- wedding anniversary for us (we got married Memorial Day weekend 2005), birthday for my eldest and my brother (same day), and lots of fun events. Last year we spent it with family in Virginia, and this year add to the list: Kindergarten graduation!

Fiesta Lunch – 3 Margaritas

Our eldest reached a milestone when she graduated Kindergarten this year, and turned 6 years old the day after.  We had her party on Saturday, and her graduating classmates were able to join in on the fun.  It was nice to have friends join in too!   What a truly memorable weekend.  Being in the military, Memorial Day holds a special place in my heart.  It is a weekend of reflection, prayer, and remembering those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.  It is also a weekend of honoring those who still serve.   For our family, it is a special weekend because of all the milestones.  For us, it marks mid-year, and hopefully a renewal of spirit.

Perfect moments are shared so rarely, I wanted to share our perfect Memorial Day weekend- milestones and memories for a lifetime.  We hope yours was as memorable as ours– Happy Memorial Day 2013!

Perfect Moment Monday- Memorializing Milestone Moments

Memorial Day weekends are generally busy, fun-filled weekends with us with one theme:  Family.  There wasn’t just one perfect moment this past week and weekend, but rather, a list.  Isn’t it great when you have too many to count?  And more importantly, isn’t it great when you can “memorialize” them to remember forever.  Here are my perfect moments for Memorial Day week 2011:

Anniversary

My husband and I got married on Memorial Day weekend, Sunday, the 29th of May and so we celebrate our anniversary each year on this special weekend.  This year went to Cinema Grill, watched a movie, and ate some snacks together.  We had a good time even on the drive there and back to just get caught up.  It’s hard to believe it has been six years.

Birthday

Our first daughter’s due date was on our anniversary but she arrived 5 days early- probably because she wanted her own special day instead of arriving on ours.  In any case, she was born on my brother’s birthday.  This past week, she had three birthdays– one at her school with princess cupcakes, one with family at her favorite burger joint, and of course, her gymnastics party with her classmates.  What a fun time for my little princess who turned four!  I can’t believe that time if flying by and soon, she will start school!  In any case, it was great to celebrate all these moments.

Family

Having family in town is always an adventure but of course, family is family.  The girls love having extra people in the house to forum shop with 🙂  and play with.  We always have family in town around this time because of Memorial Day weekend, and all the events and it’s fun.  Because of family in town, we have had opportunities to have date nights as well and that is priceless especially considering it was our anniversary month.

Memorial Day weekend is always busy for us but how can we forget these perfect moments — especially when we can put them in a posting lke this and “memorialize” them?
